The Whyalla & Districts 4WD Club

The Club's Evolution

History

In 1976, Iron Baron members of the Toyota Landcruiser Club of Australia (S.A.), all agreed that they should be able to form their own 4WD Club in this district as 4WD vehicles seemed to be a fairly common sight around Whyalla and it was difficult to take part in activities planned for Adelaide.

A notice was placed in the Whyalla News and this was followed by a meeting at the Iron Baron oval in October 1976. A barbecue was enjoyed by the Iron Baron members and their families and all possibilities were discussed -- the most popular idea being; that all, those interested should join the T.L.C.C, and then we would just organize our own outings and look into the idea of forming a branch later.

Things progressed from there, and in January 1977 the first Club camping trip was a weekend at Memory Cove.

By May 1977, after one or two day outings and an Easter trip to Arkaroola, membership continued to grow.

It was decided at the May meeting that the club should try to form its own branch. Adelaide committee agreed and the first committee was formed; Chairman - Barrie B, Secretary - Maureen B, Treasurer - Bill G, committee members - Jim S and Michael.

The NORTH WESTERN BRANCH of the T.L.C.C was born.
